Zack Kaltenbach, also known as Zack Taylor, is a model. Growing up, Zack was a star tennis player, but he always loved singing. He has been performing since he was in elementary school.[1]

Early Life

Zack was born on May 7, 1993 to Mary Ann and John Kaltenbach from Lee's Summit, Missouri. He has a younger sister named Maggie Kaltenbach (born July 22, 1997). He began singing when he was in elementary school in fifth grade, it being a school requirement.[2]

2015-present: American Idol and Boy Band

In 2015, Zack competed on Fox's American Idol for the premier of season XIV as a solo act, making the Top 48.[3] He found out about it when discovering the auditions being held in Branson at his workplace, and he went with a friend. Later that year in May, he sang the National Anthem at the KC Royals game for his birthday.[4] In 2017 he made it in the Top 30 to compete on Boy Band, though was eliminated in the first episode.

Personal Life

In high school during Zack's freshman year, his father was in a car accident, breaking the bottom of his spine. Put in a coma, Zack's mom was forced to stay with him in the hospital. The incident left Zack in charge at home to take care of himself and his sister.[1] During this period, Zack also switched his focus from music to the culinary arts. He ended up hating it, and switched back to music in his sophomore year. In 2010 he was a graduate of Blue Springs South High School.

Later at Missouri State University, where he studied business and finance, Zack was a member of an all-male a cappella group called the Beartones. He did it for three years, touring around the Midwest to different high schools before branching off into his solo career. After graduating from college in 2014, he took an internship at the insurance company where his mother is vice president. After American Idol he moved to Los Angeles in 2016, continuing to wait tables while auditioning for modeling, acting, and singing jobs. In April he submitted himself for a Disney music video and got a call from a producer at ABC who was interested in him for the show Boy Band.[2]
